The post for which you have applied is defined as exempted employment within the terms of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exemption) Order 1975, as amended. If shortlisted, you will be required to declare any relevant convictions, adult cautions or other matters which may affect your suitability to work with children. As a result of amendments to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (exceptions order 1975) in 2013 and 2020, some minor offences are now protected (filtered) and should not be disclosed to potential employers, and employers cannot take these offences into account. Declaration of any convictions will not necessarily bar you from employment. This will depend on the circumstances and background to your offence(s).
If shortlisted, an online search will be carried out to check for any incidents or issues you have been involved in that are publicly available online, excluding social media.
All applicants who are offered employment will be subject to a DBS Enhanced Disclosure before the appointment is confirmed. This will include details of cautions, reprimands or final warnings as well as convictions.
Please ensure that you have read the Job Description and Person Specification fully.
Specialist Education Services is not allowed to employ persons who are deemed “not fit” to work with children. This includes being physically and mentally unfit for the purposes of the job set out in the job description and personnel specification. Withholding or providing incorrect information in your application form will result in not being considered for employment or summary dismissal.
Please provide three referees who are able to comment on your suitability for the post for which you are applying.
