In July, a group of our children and adults headed to Newquay, Cornwall for a fantastic few days of adventure, challenge and new experiences. The trip was packed with activities, taking to the water for surf rafting, bodyboarding and coasteering. Away from the waves, they explored some of Cornwall’s history and legends with a visit to Tintagel Castle and Merlin’s Cave, as well as enjoying a swim at the Jubilee Pool in Penzance, the UK’s largest seawater lido. Despite some very strong winds in the evenings, everyone embraced the experience and had a brilliant time. Whether tackling the waves, exploring the coastline or simply spending time together, Cornwall was another opportunity for everyone to Be Curious, Show Love and Build Connections.
Trips, like this one to Cornwall, are a great example of The SES Way and our therapeutic practice in action. Co-adventuring alongside trusted adults gives our young people opportunities to experience appropriate challenge, take positive risks and step outside their comfort zones, knowing that they have secure relationships around them. These shared experiences help build confidence, resilience, trust and connection, while creating memories that young people and adults can share long after the trip has finished.
