REGISTERED MANAGER with Specialist Education Services

(Long term absence cover)

Salary £55,545 to £71,180 depending on experience and qualifications.

We are seeking an inspiring Registered Manager to lead our care team at Avocet House, near Loddon. You will not be running our Children’s Home as a separate entity, we have dual registration for our establishments as both a Residential Special School and Children’s Home. 

The Registered Manager will hold a vitally important role and will be expected to drive forward our holistic approach with the Principal and Head of Education, providing leadership, support and direction for the team, and championing the company’s ethos, philosophy and practice.  Supporting the successful candidate is a Head of Care and four Deputy Care Managers.

You should bring a wide range of knowledge and experience as a residential childcare practitioner along with management experience and suitable qualifications.  The successful candidate will need to be approved by and registered with Ofsted in accordance with their respective timescales and conditions.

The SES Way, our model of blended therapeutic care and education, is second to none nationally in achieving successful and lasting positive outcomes for the most complex young people.  This role is ideal for somebody who wants to stretch and develop their own experience working alongside our multidisciplinary team, in partnership with professional consultants, enabling us to provide therapeutic care, health and education fully ‘in house’.

Avocet House has been repeatedly graded as Outstanding by Ofsted since 2009 on full and interim social care inspections and school inspections, and is currently rated as good in social care.

You must be conversant with and in tune with our philosophy and approach which you will find explained in detail on our website.  You will need to be energetic, dedicated and resilient.

In line with the Children’s Homes Regulations the successful candidate will have:

  • a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare
  • a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare or equivalent e.g. a recognised social work qualification or a professional qualification relevant to working with children at Level 5 or equivalent (or be prepared to complete the qualification within 3 years from commencement)
  • at least two years’ experience relevant to residential child care within the last five years
  • at least one years’ experience supervising and managing professional staff
  • a good knowledge and experience of law and practice relating to looked after children
  • business and management skills to manage the work efficiently and effectively
  • a full driving licence and own vehicle

This position is offered with a guaranteed tenure of 12 months to provide stability and continuity.  A formal review will take place at 6 months to assess progress and impact. The role will continue for the full 12-month period regardless of whether the substantive Registered Manager returns during that time. At the conclusion of the 12-month period, the role will cease if the Registered Manager has returned to post. If the Registered Manager has not returned, SES reserves the right to either conclude the arrangement, extend the role, or open the position to full market recruitment in line with organisational need.
